SEC Restoring Power after Strong Winds Cause Widespread Outages
CONTACT: Ronald O. White
CREWE, Va – All available Southside Electric Cooperative (SEC) line and contract crews are working to restore power to members across southern and central Virginia. Extremely high winds overnight and throughout the day on Friday have resulted in widespread outages.
As of 12:00 p.m, approximately 13,819 co-op members in 14 counties are without power due to strong winds and saturated ground throughout SEC’s service territory.
Due to the extent of damage to SEC’s distribution system, outage restoration efforts are expected to last throughout the weekend.
SEC reminds members to stay away from downed power lines or fallen trees/limbs that may be in close proximity to power lines. Do not attempt to move downed lines under any circumstances, and exercise extreme caution around any damaged electrical infrastructure. Please report any damage to the Cooperative and/or local law enforcement in the event of an emergency.
Members should report power outages to SEC by calling 1-866-878-5514.
